Direct Drive Rotaries – High Torque Motors
Direct Drive Rotary Tables is a type of rotary table commonly used for the continuous mechanical operation that is many times more accurate and flexible than conventional rack and pinion rack rotary tables or other type of mechanical face gears. A fast, powerful high torque motor is the core of the Direct Drive rotary table to enable it to be very quick, strong and smooth, which is usually controlled by a high speed encoder. The rotary shaft is generally fixed at a center of rotation. The most common types of Direct Drives are those made of carbon fiber and aluminum. These types of tables are lightweight and have a lot of torque, which makes them good for the industrial applications.
The advantage of using a rotary table is that they are very precise as compared to conventional rack and pinion and face gears used in mechanical applications. They are also much easier to handle and more efficient to run than other types of face gears.
The advantage of a rotary table is that they are very accurate and can be adjusted to the desired angles and rotations to provide better performance. The main disadvantage of using a rotary table is that they tend to be heavy to transport and to set up. A rotary table that is too heavy can cause back bending of the table when you are working on it for a long time. Also they consume more energy than a rack and pinion or other rotary mechanism to maintain a constant speed.
Another disadvantage of using rotaries is that there is no option of manual shifting of gears as there is with conventional face gears and rack and pinions and high torque motors. You need to get the table set up and move it manually to keep your equipment at the right place.

There are three main types of Direct Drive motors namely the DC motor, the AC motor and the induction motor. AC motors are normally used in small to medium sized operations whereas DC motors can be used in large applications, but they need to be used with special equipment and the main disadvantage is that they have less power and torque.
